Brazil is Latin America's largest market and one of the most digital in the world — and one that punishes hardest those who arrive with another country's playbook. What changes, in practice:
1. Language: Brazilian Portuguese, not translation
Website, social, customer service and material in Brazilian Portuguese (not European), written by native speakers — not translated. Brazilians spot literal translation in one sentence and grow suspicious. If the site is global, a /pt-br/ version with its own URL and hreflang.
2. WhatsApp is the channel
In Brazil, customers don't email: they message. A WhatsApp button on every page, replies in minutes, and a business number with a trained team. A company offering only a form looks closed.
3. Instagram is the storefront
For consumer and many B2B brands, Instagram is where the brand is checked before purchase. An active profile, in Portuguese, with local content. Repurposing the global feed isn't enough.
4. Marketplaces: Mercado Livre first
For physical products, Mercado Livre is the front door — more than Amazon. Reputation, Full and Product Ads have their own rules. Shopee grows in low-ticket items.
5. Pricing: installments and Pix
Brazilians ask "in how many installments?". Interest-free card installments and a discount for Pix (instant, free payment) are expected. Prices in reais, taxes included.
6. Culture and calendar
Black Friday, Mother's Day (retail's second biggest date), Christmas, Carnival, Consumer Day. Humor and closeness work; excessive formality pushes away. Regions matter: São Paulo, the Northeast and the South are different markets.
7. Local partners
An accountant, a trademark firm (INPI), logistics and an agency that knows the market. Register the trademark before launching — Brazil is "first to file".
Where to start
A local market and competitor diagnosis, brand and message adaptation, one channel (Instagram + WhatsApp or Mercado Livre) done right, and Portuguese SEO from day one. That's what we do for brands arriving here.
